Fast Track Your Career in Natural Products: Food Safety

Interested in working in natural foods? According to industry professionals, job candidates with adequate knowledge of food safety stand out among their peers because they understand relevant risks and incorporate these considerations into managerial decisions. 

“To be a successful business leader, you need to have an understanding of all aspects of your operation,” says Kyle Garner, CEO of . “In the food industry, no part of the operation is more critical than ensuring the quality and safety of your products. As supply chains globalize, it is more important than ever to have a robust food safety plan in place.”

From a managerial standpoint, it is important to be mindful of inherent risks to the safety of natural foods products in order to successfully run business operations. Recruiters are looking for candidates who have this food safety acumen, and CESR has responded to this demand by hosting a on Saturday, February 22nd that will provide students with an opportunity to develop within this space. 

“This workshop is designed not to train people to become experts in food safety, but to provide the basic understanding they'll need to lead organizations and oversee people who deal with food safety,” says Julie Waggoner, Interim Director of CESR. “It is intended to provide students with enough information to make decisions, recognize risks, and manage operations.”

This event is part of the MBA Natural and Organic Pathway, which was developed to prime students for a variety of careers in natural products, from developing innovative marketing campaigns to designing sustainable supply chains. While the workshop is geared toward MBAs, all Leeds students are welcome to attend.

At the workshop, you will gain insights from industry icon Nancy Scharlach, President and Chief Technical Director of , and her diverse knowledge of food safety practices. Throughout the duration of the workshop, students will learn about the following: 

  • Regulations 

  • Private industry requirements

  • Food safety hazards and best practices
