Shelby Holcomb: Student, 16, F, her brain works faster than her mouth, but her mouth works pretty fast. People have always underestimated her.

Beth Powell: Student, 17, F, nervous, ambitious, and enthusiastic. She always takes thing seriously and works hard at anything she puts her mind to.

Nell Shaw: Student, 16, F, from Atlanta, she is grounded and sincere. Genuinely curious about everything. A good judge of character, and a quick study.

Ivy Watkins: Student, 17, F, fiercely loyal and always well-intentioned. She is from money, but doesn’t fall under the mean girl standard.

Raelynn Nix: Student, 16, F, a cheerleader type who’s always lived her life by other people’s standards. She pays careful attention to any interaction.

Mason Adams: Student, 17, M, he’s never really tried before, but surprises himself when he takes a chance. Becomes more confident to stand up for what’s right as he learns more about others.

Lee Turner: Student, 16, M, a typical good ol’ boy, deeply insecure and without the tools to deal with it. He’s always been good at getting what he wants.

Bailey Gallagher: Counselor, 24, F, sweet in all the ways someone from the south is. This is her first real job out of college, she is trying her best.

Minstrel: Male, mid 20s to 40s. Sings the opening number and also plays almost all of the side characters throughout the show including SHYLOCK ( an old Jewish moneylender), LORD CLAPHAM ) a flamboyant theater producer) and a handful of other small parts. (Baritone)

Nick Bottom: Male, mid 20s to 30s. A struggling renaissance writer at the end of his rope. Nigel’s older brother. Incredibly jealous of the success of William Shakespeare and will do anything to beat him. (Baritone)

Nigel Bottom: Male, mid 20’s to 30’s. Nick’s younger brother. A sweetly naïve young writer and poet, perhaps a little awkward. He falls in love with Portia and ultimately finds confidence in himself through art and love. (High baritone/tenor).

William Shakespeare: Male, mid 20s to 30s. A renaissance rock star. Think Mick Jagger or James Brown. (rock tenor)

Thomas Nostradamus: Male, 40s to 60s. A soothsayer who almost sees the future correctly. A bit loony. He predicts that Nick and Nigel will write a musical. (Baritone)

Bea: Female, mid 20s to 30s. Nick’s wife and “Right Hand Man”. She loves and supports him despite his questionable decision making and lack of success. Bea resorts to dressing up like a male to make ends meet and to prove to Nick she can be an actor. (Belter)

Portia: 20s to 30s female. An adorably quirky Puritan girl whom Nigel meets on the street. They fall madly in love with each other over their mutual love for Shakespeare and poetry. (Soprano with a strong mix)

Brother Jeremiah:  Male, 40′ to 50s. Portia’s father. A Puritan with deeply repressed homoerotic tendencies. He despises playwrights, poets and all things ungodly.
