What You Automatically Receive

Advising, Faculty & Degree Program Communications

Your academic advisor, course faculty and instructors, and your primary department, college, school or program will send you email updates related to your academic progress. They will include items such as:


  • How to schedule an appointment
  • Office hours and ways to connect
  • Important dates and deadlines
  • Program-wide events
  • Progress tips for finishing your degree program

Whether you’re new to campus or a returning student, it’s important to be prepared to take action in an emergency.


¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder provides three levels of alert notifications:  

  • ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Emergency Alerts: Immediate threat to safety on campus and when the university’s operating status changes due to weather, etc. 
  • ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Safety Alerts: Email notification of a crime committed on or near campus for increased awareness of ongoing or dangerous situations.
  • ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Advisory: Non-emergency incidents for awareness and potential impacts (power failures, road closures, etc.).

Residence Hall Communications

For students living in campus housing, Residence Life sends a monthly newsletter on events, resources and support. You may also receive periodic emails from your residence hall director with building-specific information.

Buff Portal


Buff Portal is where you conduct most of your university business. Within the portal you can manage your:

  • Profile and privacy settings
  • Password, display name and email settings
  • IdentiKey password and email
  • Email preferences
  • Address, phone number and other personal information

Buff Portal Advising is the appointment scheduling system for undergraduate students (except those in the Leeds School of Business) who wish to make an appointment with an academic advisor or academic coach. Within Buff Portal Advising you can: 

  • Schedule an appointment with your advisor
