MASP is accepting applications for PEAC Mentors for the 2024 Program for Excellence in Academics and Community (PEAC), a summer bridge program for incoming first-year students. 

Job Duties

• Provide hands-on oversight and mentoring to a pod of students (including appropriate reporting and documentation)
• Attend and provide learning assistance at scheduled courses and study hours
• Live in the residence hall and attend scheduled dorm duty shifts
• Help plan and participate in required community-building activities, community events, and recreational activities, including during the evenings and weekends
• Attend weekly staff meetings with the mentoring team and program director
• MOST IMPORTANTLY: Uphold and model exemplary behavior consistent with MASP’s commitment to academics and community

Availability and Training

• Must be available to live and work full-time on campus from July 3 - July 26, 2024
  • PEAC Mentors will be asked to commit their time fully to PEAC, and refrain from other employment or class enrollment during the program (exceptions might be made, but must be fully disclosed in the application and receive director approval)
• Participate in 4 mandatory training sessions during the spring 2024 semester 
  • Tentatively Mondays from 6:00-7:30 pm on March 4th, March 18th, April 1st, and April 15th
• Participate in mandatory training July 3 - July 5, 2024

Compensation

• PEAC mentors will be compensated $2100 (including training) and will receive free Room & Board during the program
  • All mentors will be required to apply for summer work-study through their buff portal (but can still be hired if that request is not approved)
• Of the 8 PEAC mentors, 2 will be designated as co-lead mentors with additional responsibilities and pay
  • Lead mentors will ideally have experience in similar positions and will help coordinate training, scheduling, activities, etc.

Bound Programs: 

MASP has three new discipline-specific Bound Programs that run throughout the Fall and Spring of AY 2024-25. The programs are: 

• Arts & Humanities Bound 
• Social Sciences Bound 
• Science Bound 

Each Bound Program is a year-long program for first-year students who are interested in building a strong and inclusive community with students who have similar academic interests. Each program includes a 3.5-day Pre-Arrival Orientation program at the beginning of move-in week (new from the AY 23-24 program), two one-credit Bound-specific courses (one Fall 2024 course and one Spring 2025 colloquium), and a weekend experience. As a mentor, you will provide mentoring to a small group of students throughout the AY 2024-25, participate in the Pre-Arrival Orientation, provide learning assistance for the courses, participate in the fall weekend experience, and lead community events.
