Norwegian Ambassador To Speak At ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder

Norwegian Ambassador to the United States Tom E. Vraalsen will present a Norwegian perspective on current events in an address Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The talk will begin at 11 a.m. in the Forum Room at the University Memorial Center, at Broadway and Euclid Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. Vraalsen’s talk is titled “Meeting the Humanitarian and Security Challenges Ahead -- A Norwegian Perspective.”

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Career Services Holds Fair To Prepare Students For Internships

The Career Services office at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold an Internship Fair on Feb. 18 in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder students must bring their student ID to attend the fair. Company booths will be on display so that all ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder students can meet with business representatives. Students are encouraged to bring about 20 resumes, dress in a professional manner and remember to pick up business cards from employers they talk with.

First Phase of $850,000 Construction Project Nearly Done At Mountain Research Station

Bastone Named Director Of Career Services For ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ School Of Law

Tony Bastone has been named the director of career services for the University of Colorado School of Law, pending approval by the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Board of Regents. Bastone is a former assistant dean for the office of career services at Southern Methodist University School of Law. He has also served in career services offices for law schools at the University of Washington, Golden Gate University and the University of Tulsa. Bastone has a masterÂ’s degree in criminology and corrections from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

Law Professor's Book On Race Receives Outstanding Book Award

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Professor Richard Delgado, the Jean N. Lindsley Professor of Law, has been awarded the American Library Association's Outstanding Academic Book Award for "The Coming Race War? And Other Apocalyptic Tales of America After Affirmative Action and Welfare." The book is a series of enlightening and thought-provoking dialogues between “The Professor and Rodrigo,” his young protégé. The two meet at conferences and airports and discuss issues of race, including affirmative action, empathy and power structure.

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Center For Entrepreneurship Receives $500,000 Price Institute Grant

The Center for Entrepreneurship at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder, a joint venture between the colleges of business and engineering, has just received a $500,000 grant from the Price Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. “This represents a huge step forward for our entrepreneurship program – it will definitely help to move us to the next level,” said Denis Nock, the centerÂ’s director. “Foundation grants of this size for university entrepreneurship programs are pretty rare,” he said.

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Archives Acquires Iraqi Secret Police Files

A large cache of secret police documents citing IraqÂ’s repeated use of chemical weapons and its genocidal campaign against the Kurds in northern Iraq will be opened to the public for the first time as a result of a recent acquisition by the Archives at the University of Colorado at Boulder, according to curator Bruce Montgomery. The collection, known as the Captured Iraqi Secret Police Files, also details IraqÂ’s top leadership, security and intelligence agencies, and collaborators.

Preparing Future Faculty Is Topic Of Feb. 16 ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Conference

A new way of preparing future college teachers at the University of Colorado at Boulder that is viewed as a national model will be the topic of an all-day conference on Feb. 16. Top administrators and faculty from nine Colorado colleges and universities will attend the event, including ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ President John Buechner and ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Chancellor Richard Byyny. The Preparing Future Faculty program links doctoral students at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder with professors at other Colorado colleges and universities.
