¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder Professor Richard Delgado, the Jean N. Lindsley Professor of Law, has been awarded the American Library Association's Outstanding Academic Book Award for "The Coming Race War? And Other Apocalyptic Tales of America After Affirmative Action and Welfare."
The book is a series of enlightening and thought-provoking dialogues between “The Professor and Rodrigo,” his young protégé. The two meet at conferences and airports and discuss issues of race, including affirmative action, empathy and power structure.
"The Coming Race War?" looks at complex social issues but draws simple analogies. For example, in the chapter about empathy and false empathy, the two men discuss how gift givers often give what they would like to receive.
"It's something of a joke with married folks. The husband gives the wife a lug wrench. She gives him two tickets to the opera and so on," Delgado writes.
The Outstanding Academic Books list is selected annually from books and electronic resources reviewed by CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries.
"The list is truly the best-of-the-best for academic and research related materials," said Law School Dean Harold Bruff.
“The Coming Race War” was published by New York University Press in 1996.
