Led by Research & Innovation Office Proposal Writer/Editor Diane Carillo, this program is designed to support your proposal development from start to finish through individual/one-on-one writing and proposal development coaching, optional peer writing groups, red team reviews, and proposal draft reviews. Participants will learn the ins and outs of writing a competitive NSF CAREER proposal with the goal of submitting a strong proposal by the deadline.

As part of its New Frontiers Grant Program, the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) invites faculty to a Forum & Mixer to present ideas via one-minute, lightning-style presentations and network with potential partners.

Please join us for an introductory workshop on searching for grant opportunities, specifically customized for scholars in Education.
- Who:Specifically designed for School of Education faculty, this workshop is open to all (including across disciplines, staff of all ranks, and graduate students and postdocs).

In this 1-hour workshop, the School of Education (SOE) and the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) will provide a list of potential funding opportunities that Ƶ education scholars have pursued in the past or that appear promising to pursue.
We will introduce faculty and others to free platforms (with Ƶ Log In credentials) to help you identify potential funding opportunities (these include Pivot, Dimensions, and Philanthropy News Digest). We will discuss strategies for refining searches to fit scholars’ particular funding goals, ways to determine eligibility, and tips for identifying the most promising opportunities to pursue.
We welcome faculty members, postdocs, graduate students, and staff with a range of experience with grant preparation—whether you are early career and new to grant proposals or further along in your career and have already submitted several proposals, we hope that the information and strategies will be of use to you. The presentation will allow time for Q&A.
The program will be co-facilitated by Donna Axel (Proposal Writer & Research Development Specialist, RIO) and Joe Polman (Professor & Associate Dean for Research, SOE). We will record it for those who cannot attend and make the recording available to the SOE community afterward.

This workshop is part one of two and will provide an overview of how to plan and generate ideas for broader impact research and activities.
The goal of this workshop is to teach participants how to develop their Broader Impacts Plan. Participants will explore and outline how they, their field, their capacity and societal needs help frame their Broader Impacts Plan and will leverage their passion to grow their broader impacts over time to benefit society and to grow in their career. Participants will learn to utilize valuable resources like the ARIS toolkit and gain insight into the guiding principles and evaluation criteria set by the National Science Foundation. Laying this foundation will better position participants in securing grants and awards and with achieving their broader impacts plans.

Join us for a presentation followed by Q&A on the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Co-sponsored by the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and Ƶ's Office of Top Scholarships, this event features Julia V. Lieber (Outreach & Recruitment Specialist for the Fulbright Scholar Program, IIE) and Ƶ Boulder’s Eric Vance (Applied Mathematics).
Dr. Vance will speak about his experiences as a Fulbright Scholar in Indonesia. Julia Lieber will speak about the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program which offers over 800 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects around the world. College and university faculty, as well as artists and professionals from a wide range of fields can join over 400,000 Fulbrighters who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding.

In advance of the workshop, faculty will exchange drafts to consider potential improvements using the NEH categories and requirements. The goal of this workshop is a continuation of developing a Broader Impacts Plan.
Participants will learn about establishing partnerships to reach their intended audience and how to actualize their broader impacts plans effectively with their intended audience. Participants will learn to utilize valuable resources like the ARIS toolkit and gain insight into the guiding principles and evaluation criteria set by the National Science Foundation. Participants will engage in foundational activities for developing a project budget, for creating goals and for evaluating the results of the broader impacts project. We will also review evaluation tool options, an assessment rubric, and connect PIs with resources for successful planning. Laying this foundation will better position participants with securing grants and awards and achieving their broader impacts plans.

This session will provide a deeper dive into effective research “with” and “by” communities building off the Spring 2024 workshop with Dr. Leilah Lyons, an NSF Program Director of the Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings (DRL) Program. Increasing participants’ capacity to center and develop authentic partnerships with communities is the focus of this workshop.
This workshop will address ways to refrain from common transactional practices that perpetuate tokenism and exploitation of communities when engaging with them for research purposes. Developing and fostering mutual beneficial partnerships is the focus of this workshop.
