How to Apply

Academic Background

Successful applicants typically will have:

  • An Undergraduate GPA of:
    • MS Applicants - 3.2 or higher
    • PhD Applicants - 3.4 or higher
  • Required: Two semesters of calculus, differential equations with linear algebra OR a focused linear algebra course, and one semester of calculus-based physics;
  • Preferred: Completion of a third semester of calculus, a second semester of calculus-based physics, and/or a focused linear algebra course.
  • At least two semesters of upper-division undergraduate courses in engineering, computer science, or physical sciences.
  • For International Applicants, if applicable, English language scores of:
    • TOEFL: 83 (minimum), 100 (preferred)
    • IELTS: 6.0 (minimum), 7.0 (preferred)
    • Duolingo: 120
  • GRE scores are not required for any applicant.

When you apply, you will need to provide the following materials:

  • Academic History (degrees awarded, dates attended, GPA, and unofficial transcripts from all schools attended)
  • Employment History (starting from the date you began your undergraduate coursework and including dates of employment and position title, plus a CV or resume)
  • English Proficiency Test Scores (if applicable; please see the Graduate School's English proficiency requirements for more information)
  • Letters of Reference
    • Two (2) for MS applicants
    • Three (3) for PhD applicants
  • Personal Statement
    • Maximum of two pages for MS applicants
    • Maximum of three pages for PhD applicants
  • Application Fee

We are now accepting applications for Spring 2025 (MS only) and Fall 2025 (both MS and PhD).

  • Application Deadline for Spring 2025 Admission is October 1, 2024. 
  • Application Deadline for Fall 2025 Admission is December 15, 2024. 

International Admissions

While our robotics programs are new and still awaiting U.S. approval to issue I-20s, we expect to receive such approval shortly. We welcome applications from international students, and if I-20s are unavailable for the entry term in question, the department is happy to work with international admits on deferrals or alternative solutions. Please contact Lindsey Morford if any questions arise.

For current ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Engineering Students interested in transferring into Robotics

The Robotics Program will accept internal transfers from other departments and programs in the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science starting in Fall 2024.

Transfers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the graduate committee through a petition. Please contact Lindsey Morford, robotics program specialist, for further information.
