Lab

The CLASP program is home to a state-of-the-art laboratory for the analysis of discursive interaction. Situated in 291 Hellems, the CLASP lab is available for use by students enrolled in the CLASP Graduate Certificate Program. The lab also provides desks for CLASP students who have been admitted into the PhD program in Linguistics. Read more about lab research on the CLASP Lab .

In addition to a broad inventory of sophisticated audio-visual recording equipment and software, the lab features an extensive library of published works in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and linguistic anthropology, including texts from the collections of Rolf Kjolseth and the late William Bright.

Audio-visual equipment is available for check-out with permission from the CLASP director, Kira Hall. Library materials are restricted to in-lab use only.

Collaboration and mentorship across disciplines

I greatly enjoyed participating in the CLASP program, from coursework to special events such as the lecture series and supporting planning and implementation of the SLA conference. This program contributed theoretically and methodologically to my education at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder, and I enjoyed the opportunity to gain interdisciplinary insights that transformed my approach to research in my field. I also benefited from mentorship from faculty across the School of Education, Linguistics, Anthropology, and Communication Departments, and made close friendships with students across these programs.

Intellectual Stimulation

The intellectual stimulation that came from sharing the CLASP lab with other great scholars has helped me immeasurably in my continued academic pursuits.

An Environment for Growth

The CLASP certificate has been a great opportunity for me to acquire theoretical and practical understanding in sociolinguistics, education, and language and culture, and to interact and meet faculty and students from other departments.
