Veteran Services
Supporting those who support our nation
I have a different perspective of the world.
Our veterans have supported our nation, which is why it is our goal tosupport them when they return home from service. For Tanner Scholvin, a 27-year-old Ƶ Boulder second-year student, making the transition from military to university wasa new experience.
After serving two tours in Afghanistan, one from Colorado’s Fort Carson near Colorado Springs and the other from Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Tanner decided to officially call Colorado his home and Ƶ Boulder his university. Throughout his tour of duty, Tanner knew his goal was to eventually attend college and study computer science, and with years of eye-opening life experience, he was ready for a new chapter.
However, returning to civilian life is a transition. Tanner found that a supportive community that understood his experiencewas the key component to making the transition: “I did not come back from Afghanistan as the same person that I was before I left. I had a different perspective on the world just from seeing war. I don’t take for granted just being able to have food on my plate every day.” To surround himself withan inclusive and understanding community, ourhelped Tanner findsupport and camaraderie with other veterans—the kind of community he can connect with as he continues to move forward with his life and career ambitions.
