Spring 2020 Chamber Music Series

The inaugural Ƶ Art Museum Chamber Music Series presents three short concerts featuring students from the College of Music Honors Chamber Ensembles performing in the museum. Students work with museum staff to craft programs that highlight a central thematic relationship between music and the art on view. Reception hosted by the Ƶ Art Museum following each concert. These concerts are organized in collaboration with the Ƶ College of Music.

Saturday, February 22, 2:30 p.m. “Persuasion” featuring the Felix Quartet
Saturday, March 7, 3:30 p.m. “Nature” featuring the Ivalas Quartet
Saturday, April 4, 2:30 p.m. “Utopia” featuring Ikigai Duo **This event was canceled but was recorded for the below video.

The Ikigai Duo plays George Lynn’s “Cantabile” and “Deploration” remotely, while social distancing. This mini-concert is for the Ƶ Art Museum’s canceled April “Utopia” concert. Both works are transcribed by IzzyFincher.

With the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, a perfect world, a “utopia,” seems further away than ever. With all of the suffering and loss, it can be hard to believe in a better world. Yet, the power of music can still give us hope. In troubled times, the Ikigai Duo hopes “Cantabile,” a peaceful lullaby, and “Deploration,” a contemplative reflection, will bring you a few moments of joy.
