The challenges confronting countries throughout the entire region of Asia today are numerous, ranging from immediate crises of terrorism, natural disasters and autocratic government crackdowns to long-term economic, social and cultural changes in the lifestyles and identities of Asian people. ASIA ON THE EDGE, the first annual symposium of The Center For Asian Studies will address such issues in a daylong event on Saturday, March 3rd on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder. The symposium will feature faculty and graduate students from several academic departments at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder presenting on various Asian-related topics.

1:55pm - "Islamic Piety and Public Culture in Indonesia", Carla Jones (Anthropology)
2:20pm - "Japan on Edge", Faye Kleeman (Asian Languages and Civilizations)
3:00pm - "Social Conflicts in Xinjiang: Historical Perspective", Kwangmin Kim (History)
3:25pm - "Crossing the River by Feeling the Stones: Researching in China and Researching on Chinese National Emergency Management", Wee Kiat Lim (PhD student in Sociology)
3:50pm - "Between Cultures: Korean Chinese Marriage Migrants in 'Multicultural' South Korea", Amy Schubert (PhD student in Geography)

Parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to Norlin for $3 a day. Pay at the automated pay station at the gate. The lot is accessible from the corner at University and 17th Street.
Parking is also available at the Euclid AutoPark for $3 a day.
