Biochemistry Undergraduate Research Scholar Award

Overview

The Biochemistry UndergraduateÌýResearch ScholarÌýAward provides support for undergraduate students who are majoring in Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder, to reduce financial barriers that may prevent students from obtaining appropriate research support. Recipients will be students who are pursuing research opportunities in laboratories of faculty members who are rostered in theÌýBiochemistryÌýdepartment.

Grant TypeÌýand Terms

  • 2025 SummerÌýGrant -ÌýStudents are paid anÌýaward of $3,000 for summer research. Funds are not provided for supplies, equipment, or other research expenses, which will be covered by the host lab.
  • A student may not receive the Biochemistry Undergraduate Research Scholar Award (BURSA) and funding from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) in the same semester.
  • Award Term: 2025 Summer
  • The application opens: February 11, 2025
  • The application deadline: March 15, 2025

Student Eligibility

To be eligible for funding, students must meet the followingÌýrequirements:

  • Must beÌýmajoring in Biochemistry, if the student changes their major during the award period, they will no longer be eligible to receive the award.
  • Research must be done in a Biochemistry department lab if the student changes to a lab outside of the Biochemistry department during the award period they will no longer be eligible to receive the award.
  • Must have/maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Undergraduates are not expected to have prior research experience or pre-select a mentor.

Student Expectations

To be eligible for funding, students must agree to the following expectations:

  • Must be committed to doing laboratory research.
  • Must remain in strong academic standing (minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA) for the awarded terms.
  • Encouraged to participate in department-wide meetings and symposia.
