When will Hellems be closed for construction?

Provided the balance of the project is funded, Hellems will close for classes starting the summer of 2023 and reopening in 2025.

During construction, where will the departments and offices in Hellems go?

Stay tuned! Swing space for the Hellems occupants will be housed in a handful of locations. Once this plan is finalized, we will communicate it to the campus community via multiple avenues (including updates on this site).

During construction, will access around Hellems be affected?

Yes. Pedestrian traffic around Hellems will be adjusted to accommodate the construction. Keep and eye on ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder's Cone Zone for updates and maps once the plan is finalized.

How is this project funded?

We are grateful for ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder's partnership with the State of Colorado and their support. ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder will cover 60% of the cost and is requesting the State of Colorado pay for the remaining 40%. As of October 2022, the state has agreed to fund the first and second phases of the project. In May 2023, the third and final phase was funded.

How much will Hellems' renovation cost?

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder's budget calls for roughly $105 million to cover the renovation. This budget covers planning, design and construction.

Who makes decisions about Hellems' design?

The design is driven by many factors including building code, program needs, what the existing structure allows, historical preservation and input from stakeholder groups.
