Academic Honors

Students who graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences are among some of the most talented and innovative at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder. Every day students uphold the College's long tradition of academic excellence as they distinguish themselves in the classroom, the lab, the stage and beyond. 

The College recognizes outstanding academic performance each and every semester with academic honors such as degrees with distinction and the Dean's List.

Latin Honors

Every semester, the Arts and Sciences Honors Program, in coordination with departments within the College of Arts and Sciences, gives qualified undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences the opportunity to write and defend an honors thesis in an attempt to graduate with Latin honors: cum laudemagna cum laude, or summa cum laude.

Most students undertake a thesis project within their major (Departmental Honors), but there is also an interdisciplinary option (General Honors).

Dean's List

Each semester the College of Arts and Sciences publishes the Dean's List to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence.

To be included on this list—which includes a notation on their transcript and a letter from the Dean—students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder course work for a letter grade in any single semester with a term GPA of 3.750 or better.
