- Today we experienced a threatening situation in the Folsom Field Champions Center. Later in the day, a number of calls were made to police dispatch regarding unconfirmed reports of an active threat at three separate locations. I thank everyone who responded quickly and calmly to the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder Alert regarding today’s incident.
- The city of Boulder and the county are working on an update of the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, which guides development in the valley. Part of that may include a proposal to annex a 308-acre parcel of land south of the city that could support the university’s long-term growth needs. On Monday, city and county officials will host an open house to give the community a chance to learn more about the plan update and to provide input.
- At the conclusion of a successful internal search, Senior Vice Chancellor Kelly Fox has today named Katherine Erwin Chief Human Resources Officer for the University of Colorado Boulder.
- The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Board of Regents Thursday received an update on projected enrollment growth on all four campuses from Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Todd Saliman. Among other items, the board also approved a name change for the BA degree in the Department of Women and Gender Studies and the splitting of the MS in Applied Mathematics into a professional and traditional degree.
- The city manager and staff will ask the Boulder City Council next week to consider a collaborative plan with the university to develop a new hotel and conference center in the heart of the city. The center will have the potential to help revitalize The Hill commercial district and create a modern gathering place for academics, researchers and the community.
- David L. Ikenberry announced today that he has reconsidered and will decline an offer to be reappointed as dean of the Leeds School of Business through 2021. Ikenberry will join the Leeds faculty.
- With the new academic year underway and recognizing that what we do at Leeds and how we manage our academic programs and our culture also affects the university as a whole, I write to give you an update and address some of the issues you may have been hearing and reading about. As the Dean of Leeds, I am committed to working with our faculty, staff and students to create and support an environment in which all can thrive.
- This summer, a unique group gathered in Florence, Italy to discuss the global future of the University of Colorado Boulder. Hosted by Chancellor DiStefano, the meeting engaged alumni representatives from across the world in a discussion about integrating our teaching and learning community into their local business and professional communities.
- <p>BBA has been responsible for developing and promoting new professional master’s degrees at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder for both on-campus and distance students. These services will now be expanded to all graduate education. With this move, the Graduate School will also be responsible for developing ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder’s Massive Open Online Courses, known as MOOCs.</p>
- <p>Provost Moore today announced Bobby Braun as the new dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Braun, who helped lead the team that put the first rover on Mars, is a professor of space technology at Georgia Tech. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and formerly worked at NASA Langley Research Center for 16 years. He'll arrive on campus to join the faculty in October 2016. His role as dean will begin in January 2017.</p>
