Ƶ Boulder is extending its deposit confirmation date from May 1 to June 1 for first-year students admitted for fall 2024 in order to best support students and their families impacted by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) delays this year.
“It is critical for students and their families to know that Ƶ Boulder remains committed to supporting them through the financial aid process,” said Amy Hutton, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. “By extending the confirmation deadline, we intend to provide ample time for all students—especially those from Colorado and who are first-generation or have financial need—to gather and assess all information needed to make important decisions about their future education.”
How we got here
The Department of Education announced on January 30 that institutions of higher education would not begin to receive students’ FAFSA data until mid-March. Without this data, Ƶ Boulder cannot begin processing financial aid offers for current or prospective students.
What you should know
The priority housing deadline is also extended to June 5. The timeline for new student orientation and registration will not change: New student orientation sessions begin in May, and class registration for first-year fall 2024 students opens in July. If there are further FAFSA delays that would ultimately impact these timelines, students should expect to be contacted via email.
Current students
Current students who receive federal aid can sit tight. Once our campus starts to receive FAFSA data, it will begin processing the data in order to send financial aid offers.
A moving target
The June 1 confirmation extension is subject to revaluation by Ƶ Boulder’s Division of Enrollment Management should there be further delays to the FAFSA process. The extension is applicable to this year only and will return to May 1 in 2025, barring any significant impacts.
