Students, staff, faculty and Boulder community members are invited to save the date for the Jan. 22 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Convocation 2024.

Sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the convocation will celebrate the legacy of the civil rights leader. Featured speakers and other details will become available over the coming weeks.

King was one of the most prominent and influential leaders of the country’s civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s until his assassination in Memphis in 1968. At the age of 35, he became the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Traditionally celebrated on the third Monday of January, Martin Luther King Day became a federal holiday in 1983 and a state holiday in Colorado in 1985. Planned events include regional observances such as the annual in downtown Denver on Jan. 15, the only one of its kind in the country.
