Ƶ Boulder received 10,272 applications during this year’s Colorado Free Application Daycampaign from Oct. 19 to 21, 2021, an increase of more than 13% from the 2020 campaign.
Organized by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, the 2021 event expanded the free application period from one day to three and saved Colorado students more than $2.5 million in waived fees, according to a state news release Tuesday. All 32 Colorado public universities and several private colleges waived application fees for in-state applicants.
The campaign is designed to erase equity gaps and encourage stronger rates of college-going across the state.
“Ƶ Boulder is proud to embrace this initiative,” said Clark Brigger, executive director of admissions. “We are committed to opening our doors to a more diverse student body, and the free application campaign is proving valuable in getting us closer to that goal.”
First-generation students accounted for more than a third of statewide applications, according to a Colorado Department of Higher Education news release. More than half of the free applications were submitted by students of color, who are historically underrepresented on Colorado college campuses.
Overall, Colorado students submitted 62,679 applications, a 10% increase from last year’s event.
CDHE officials said the campaign has now saved Colorado students more than $8.4 million over the last four years.
