Colorado’s wildfire season is off to a fast and furious start this year. And a new ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder study shows that the impact of wildfires includes not only the destruction of homes and wildlands but also freshwater sources. Researcher Fernando Rosario-Ortiz says sediments, nutrients and dissolved organic matter washing off burnt hillsides contaminate streams, straining the capabilities of downstream treatment facilities.
