Ava Ector,transit manager for Transportation Services, will retire on May 31, Parking and Transportation Services Director Tom McGann announced today.

Transit Manager Ava Ector“As a campus leader who cares about the daily transportation needs for our faculty, staff and students, Ava Ector will leave a lasting legacy of kindness and integrity. I wish her the best in her retirement years,” said McGann.

A university employee for 24 years, Ector's career began in the Buying and Contracting Department, now known as Procurement, where she processed Ƶ purchase orders, announced public bids and entered bids for analysis.

An opportunity became available with Transportation Services (TS) in 1999, and, since joining TS, she’s worked as lease dispatcher, transit dispatcher, office manager and transit manager.

As transit manager, Ector oversees the daily transit operations for Housing & Dining Services’ Buff Bus, charter runs, Ƶ conferences, geology/geography student research, UCAR/NCAR and research for new innovations for Buff Buses—creating the real-timeƵ Bus Tracker app—as well as keeps the buses safe, secure, staffed and maintained within budget. (Ector also has been on call 24/7 for all transit needs.)

Ector stated her favorite experienceswhile at Ƶ “are a combination of the people, diverse culture and the encouragement I’ve received. These experiences have contributed positively to my life.”

After retirement, she looks forward to reading, cooking and traveling somewhere that requires a passport.

Faculty and staff are invited to join Parking and Transportation Services to honor Ector at her retirement farewell reception from 3 to 5p.m. Thursday, May 24, in the Aspen Rooms at the UMC.
