The Steamboat Institute announced today it will host an April 2 debate at Ƶ Boulder’s Macky Auditorium on the issues of nationalism and globalism, featuringformer Mexican President Vicente Fox and Brexit architect Nigel Farage.
The talk will start at 6:30 p.m. and is part of the nonprofit, nonpartisan institute’s inaugural 2018 Campus Liberty Tour. Other talks are set for April 3 at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs; April 5 at the University of Maryland, College Park; and April 6 at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. Event moderators will include Wall Street Journal editorial board member Mary Kissel, Washington Examiner columnist Tom Rogan, and Ƶ Boulder Visiting Professor in Conservative Thought and Policy Robert Kaufman.
“The Steamboat Institute is honored to inspire the next generation of leaders with the thought-provoking commentary of Vicente Fox and Nigel Farage,” said Steamboat Institute CEO and Chairman Jennifer-Schubert-Akin. “A robust—but reasoned and respectful—campus debate is one of the most effective ways to reach students with diverse ideologies and help them learn how to think, not what to think.”
Ƶ Regent Heidi Ganahl added, “The Free to Be Coalition is honored to help launch this debate series and looks forward to welcoming Nigel Farage and Vicente Fox to the University of Colorado.

“We are pleased that these transformative figures from both sides of the political aisle will come together and demonstrate by example the meaning of civil and respectful debate, and the right for all to listen and establish one's own conclusions on views, which may differ from their own,” Ganahl said.
Fox, who served as Mexico’s president from 2000 to 2006, said, “Perhaps at no other time in human history have so many people strived to make better lives for themselves and their families by peacefully moving to countries with more opportunity and stronger institutions and engaging in mutually beneficial trade with other cultures. I look forward to defending these strivers at The Steamboat Institute’s inaugural Campus Liberty Tour.”
Farage, a politician, political analyst and former leader of the United Kingdom’s Independence Party, said, “Brexit and the election of Donald Trump demonstrate that people have turned against rule by elite, who have been happy to overlook the interests of ordinary citizens in favor of trade and immigration policies that benefit their pocketbooks. I am honored to speak for these forgotten men and women at The Steamboat Institute’s Campus Liberty Tour.”
