10 things to do this week

Happy Earth Day! We’re celebrating the natural environment this week with tons events about natural preservation and sustainable living. So, get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather that nature has planned for us this week. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful Ƶ-Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. “Decolonize Your Diet” lecture.Check out this special event, which is part of the Food and Environmental Justice Week put on by (who else?) our friends at the Environmental Center. Come discuss food justice and solutions to eating less processed foods through indigenous methods, and don’t miss out on the free food. .

Friday, April 22

Free bowling in the UMC at The Connection.Ƶ Student Government is sponsoring free bowling at The Connection in the UMC from 7 to 9 p.m. Stop by to share your thoughts on this year and the work you think ƵSG still needs to do.

Eighth Annual Fashion Swap.The Ƶ Environmental Center brings you their annual clothes swap, which is held on the UMC South Terrace from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Bring your gently used clothes that you no longer wear, and trade them (for free) for other people’s gently used clothes. It’s a great and sustainable way to get yourself some free new clothes and extend the life of your old clothes, which someone else may love, instead of throwing them out. Bring men’s and women’s clothes of all sizes! .

Earth Day movie night.Come see the movie Planet Earth, which will be powered entirely by bicycles, at 8 p.m. on Farrand Field. Eat free pizza and celebrate Earth Day with your friends, and don’t forget your blankets and pillows and comfy clothes. .

Hiking with yoga.Sign up through the Rec for another of their awesome outdoor education trips which features hiking up Boulder’s beautiful Chautauqua, doing yoga with a certified instructor at the top, eating a sack lunch, and then hiking back down, to get the very best that Boulder has to offer. The mini-trip costs $45 and you must register online by 8 p.m. on April 20. .

Boulder farmer’s market.Farmer’s market season is upon us once again, which means that fresh produce, meat, pasta, condiments, pastries and prepared meals from food trucks are at our fingertips every Saturday morning and Wednesday evening. Check out one of the greatest farmer’s markets out there, which is held on 13thStreet between Canyon and Arapahoe. .

Basics of gardening workshop.Spring is here, so join permaculture expert Kelly Simmons to learn all about the botany behind planting your favorite foods and maximizing the growth of your garden, considering everything from soil to sunlight to seeds. The free workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Flemming room 33, and you will get some hands on gardening experience. Register by April 20because space is limited. .

Game of Thrones: Catch up screening.If you’re as excited as I am for the new season of GoT (coming very soon!) but you could use a little review on what was happening last time we saw the gazillion characters in the Seven Kingdoms, then swing by Chem 140 at 5:30 p.m. for a marathon of the last few episodes of Season 5. There will be free popcorn and GoT swag that the geek within will love, and admission is free..

Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk.Join the inspiring American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for a walk to raise money for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The walk begins in front of Duane Physics and goes from 11 am to 1 p.m., with a registration/check in time of 10 a.m. Bring your friends, bring your comfortable shoes, and contact madeline.fritz@colorado.edu with questions. .

Hannibal Buress live.Come listen to the very popular and hilarious comedian Hannibal Buress rock your socks off with humor at 8 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. Buress has been well reviewed by publications such as the New York Times, and his resume includes writing for 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. Tickets start at $25 for Buffs with a valid Buff OneCard and can be purchased online. .
