Beginning in fall 2013, a new 12-hour minor will be available to non-business majors at Ƶ-Boulder. The new housed in the Leeds School of Business, has been uniquely designed for non-business students so that they can effectively perform in an emerging global business environment.

Through the minor's required coursework, students will be introduced to the essential elements of marketing, management, accounting, finance and corporate social responsibility. The first students who are eligible for the minor are sophomores and juniors who plan on finishing the minor in May 2015, according to Amy Tabor, director of the business minor program.

"It is very exciting to see the energy surrounding the new business minor, from the investment that Leeds is providing this program to the diverse students who are taking advantage of the opportunity," said Tabor. "We've heard from many corporate partners that they are very interested in the business minor, not only because of the fundamentals that are being taught but because it shortens the time that their new hires can make an impact. And these companies have signaled their approval by providing scholarships to support students studying the minor."

Students can choose between one of three business track options: innovation, analytics or entrepreneurship. Once they have taken the required courses, students will complete their minor requirements through a business capstone course that focuses on strategy, application and the development of a “venture plan”. Students also have the option of completing multiple tracks for increase breadth of application.

Students can still apply to start the minor in fall 2013, and many scholarships are available. The Leeds School will host three information session for students:

  • April 18 (Thursday) from 3:30 – 4 p.m. in UMC 247
  • April 22 (Monday) from 4:00 – 4:30 p.m. in ENGR DLC Bechtel Collaboratory
  • April 24 (Wednesday) from 3 – 3:30 p.m. in UMC 247
