Following is an update of campus safety information for the University of Colorado at Boulder. While this fact sheet doesnÂ’t list every safety measure found on campus, it does provide information about some of the most visible.

EMERGENCY CALL BOXES

* Nineteen call boxes were installed in 1998-99 at a cost of $300,000, with the final one installed at the corner of 13th and Pennsylvania streets in July 1999. Twelve call boxes were in place previously, bringing the total to 31 emergency call boxes on the main ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder campus.

* The two campus parking structures — the Euclid Autopark east of the University Memorial Center and the Regent Autopark east of the engineering college — also have two call boxes on each parking level for a total of 16 boxes in those structures.

* All 47 emergency call boxes are up and running. No additional call boxes are planned for the campus at the present time.

* A map of the emergency call box locations is available via the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Police Web site at , or in "RalphieÂ’s Guide to Student Life." For more information, contact Marty Millett of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ police at (303) 492-2316.

* Night Ride/Night Walk are University of Colorado Student Union sponsored programs that offer students free escorts and rides seven days a week to locations in Boulder.

* NR/NW escorted and drove 5,220 students during the 1998-99 school year, up from 2,087 students during the 1997-98 school year.

* Service is available Sunday-Thursday 8 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.

* Times are subject to change. For additional information call (303) 492-7233.

LIGHTING

Recent ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Lighting Improvements

* Lighting has been added to the Boulder Creek bike path between 17th Street and Folsom.

* Lighting has been installed on the north, or backside, of the Recreation Center, the Claire Small Gymnasium and Temporary Building No. 1.

* Lighting has been added to several campus parking lots: Lot 169 between Newton Court (near Arapahoe and Folsom streets) and Boulder Creek; Lot 151 and 162 (east of Marine and Athens courts several blocks east of Boulder High School).

* Lighting was improved in Lot 402 and the area south of 402, which is along the bike path adjacent to Baseline Road, south of the Fleming Law Building.

* Three new lights will be added along 33rd Street east of Smiley Court.

* A major lighting project is planned in Lot 335 east of the business college and along old Folsom Drive from the Engineering Center to Regent Hall to be completed by the end of November.

* Fourteen lighting projects have been identified and prioritized with the help of a consultant. Approximately $300,000 is committed to the projects currently.

* A lighting Master Plan has been completed. The plan is intended to be a guide to make the universityÂ’s exterior lighting as effective as possible.

o Light poles on campus are numbered, allowing people to call the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ police dispatcher to report burned-out lights (492-6666).
