Robert D. Schulzinger, professor of history and director of the International Affairs program at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been elected vice-president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations for 1999.
He will succeed to the presidency in 2000. The society has a membership of about 2,100, one-third of whom live outside the United States.
Schulzinger teaches a popular ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder class, "The Vietnam War and Its Legacy," which consistently is filled to capacity and has a wait list. In 1998, the society honored Schulzinger for his book, "A Time for War: The United States and Vietnam, 1941-1975" published by Oxford University Press.
The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations is the world's major scholarly organization for the study of international history. It publishes the journal Diplomatic History, conducts an annual meeting, offers numerous fellowships and prizes for graduate students, and recognizes outstanding publications in the field of U.S. foreign relations.
