Dipankar Chakravarti, the Ortloff Professor of Business at the College of Business and Administration at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder, has been named interim dean of the college, while a committee begins a search this fall for a permanent dean.

Chakravarti replaces Larry Singell, who has returned to a faculty position in the economics department.

Chakravarti, a marketing professor, came to ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ from the University of Arizona in 1995. He has a bachelor's degree with honors in physics from the University of Calcutta and master's and doctoral degrees in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.

"He has the mind, energy and enthusiasm to continue the positive momentum and growth at the college," said Singell.

Chakravarti said, "I think we have excellent programs in place and the faculty and students to make them even stronger. We also are fortunate to have a thriving business community that is willing and able to help us fulfill our mission."

Chakravarti teaches international marketing and a marketing project field course in which groups of MBA students get hands-on experience working on marketing problems for a variety of international, national and regional companies. He also co-teaches a popular course that addresses the marketing challenges of entrepreneurial companies.

His research on consumer and managerial decision making has received several awards from the American Marketing Association and from the Association for Consumer Research. He serves on the advisory council of the Marketing Research Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association and the Scientific Advisory Council of the Society for Consumer Psychology.

Chakravarti recently completed terms as editor of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and as the academic director of the Association for Consumer Research.
