The wonders of light -- from how you get a suntan to how fiber optics can transmit a telephone conversation -- will be the subject of the next ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Wizards science show for children at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Optical physicist and Professor Dana Anderson will explain the light spectrum, from ultraviolet to infrared, and demonstrate the wonderful world of lasers in "Fantastic Light."
HeÂ’ll use a laser to explode a balloon within a balloon and perform other hands-on demonstrations designed for children in grades 5 through 9.
The free show begins at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, in Duane Physics room G-030 on the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder campus. Duane Physics is located on Colorado Avenue south of Folsom Stadium.
Anderson, who said the show will include some new demonstrations as well as many popular ones from years past, has taught physics at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder since 1984. He also is a fellow of JILA, a joint institute of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Free parking for the show is available in the Regent Drive Autopark, lots 169 and 396 off of Folsom Street, and in part of lot 378 southeast of the stadium. Lot 360, immediately east of Duane Physics, will be open to visitors for $1 per hour.
Anyone with a disability or special need should notify the physics department at 492-6952 a few days in advance of the show. For general information about the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Wizards program and schedule, call 492-4318.
