Friends of the University of Colorado Libraries and RTD are teaming up to offer a free Seniors Day at Norlin Library on Jan. 7.
Transportation to the event is free on any RTD bus and on BoulderÂ’s HOP and SKIP shuttles. The HOP stops on Colorado Avenue just east of the libraryÂ’s east entrance, where the tour will begin at 9 a.m.
Seniors can pick up their free ride coupons from Jan. 2 through Jan. 7 at the Boulder Public Library, 1000 Canyon Blvd., the Meadows Branch Library, 4800 Baseline Road, or the George Reynolds Branch Library, 3595 Table Mesa Drive.
Norlin Seniors Day runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include a tour of the libraryÂ’s reference department, archives, music library and audiovisual department. Seniors also will learn how to use the library computers and be introduced to the Internet.
During a brown bag lunch, seniors will hear from a pair of senior auditors about their experiences on the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder campus; a retired minister will discuss community opportunities of special interest to seniors; and library staff will outline some of the libraryÂ’s special holdings. The Friends of the Library will provide coffee and tea.
The highlight of the day will be a presentation at 1:15 p.m. in the Special Collections Department (formerly the Rare Books Room). Attendees will see a page from a Gutenberg Bible, a Civil War diary and original documents by Emily Dickinson, Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler.
While at the library, seniors can sign up for borrowing privileges, for extra privileges available to Friends of the Library or to become a library volunteer.
