More than 2,000 area students will attend a Lyric Theatre for Children performance of “Guys and Dolls” at the University of Colorado at Boulder Thursday, Oct. 23.

Fourth- through sixth-graders from Boulder, Denver, Aurora, Arvada, Englewood, Grover, Longmont, Littleton, Northglenn, Westminster, Windsor and Fort Collins will attend the performance.

The 11 a.m. show at Macky Auditorium is a one-hour preview of this weekendÂ’s public performance and includes full costumes, sets and orchestra. The show is completely booked, and some 2,800 children are on a waiting list.

“The Lyric Theatre could be employed full-time just doing children’s theater,” said Director Dennis Jackson, noting that the February production of “Madame Butterfly” is completely booked as well. “There’s a real hunger for this kind of thing.”

The Lyric Theatre, performed by ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder music students, has been presenting the popular childrenÂ’s performances since 1994. In the first two years, 8,700 children attended performances at Macky Auditorium and 140 road shows were put on at area schools. The performances are made possible through a grant from the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

Tickets are still available for the public performance of “Guys and Dolls” this weekend; call 492-8008 for ticket information.
