Lamar will host an exhibit on Greek culture of more than 9,000 years ago as part of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ This Summer cultural outreach program of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The exhibit, “Chaeroneia: 6000 Years B.C.,” will be May 24 through Sept. 1 at the Lamar Public Library, 104 Parmenter St. Exhibit hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
The local sponsors are KLMR/KSEC Radio, the Lamar Daily News and the Friends of the Library.
The exhibitÂ’s originator, ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder classics Professor Terpsichori Hara Tzavella-Evjen, will be in Lamar Tuesday, May 27, to give a free public talk about the archaeological excavations she directed of the village of Chaeroneia (pronounced Hair-OWN-ee-ah). Her work gives a glimpse of the ancient farming and herding society in central Greece.
Tzavella-Evjen, born in Greece, trained in classical archaeology and history at the University of Athens.
More than 300,000 people throughout Colorado have enjoyed ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ This Summer offerings over the nine years of the popular community outreach program of art and museum exhibits and music and dance performances.
¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ This Summer cultural events are sponsored by each community for the enrichment of residents and summer visitors. The host communities this year are Brighton, Burlington, Cortez, Durango, Estes Park, Grand Junction, LaJunta, Montrose and Pueblo, as well as Lamar.
¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ This Summer sponsorship is shared by the host communities and the Boulder Campus Outreach Council, the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Office of Business and Community Relations, the department of theater and dance, ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Art Galleries, the University of Colorado Museum and the College of Music with support from the Office of Public Relations.
