Latine/x Cultural and Scholarly Engagement Recognition Badge

This badge recognizes individuals who have actively engaged in campus events related to Latine/x culture in the U.S.

It demonstrates their commitment to learning about and understanding Latine/x experiences and identities. Badge-earners take a participatory approach to acquiring and enhancing intercultural competence and fluency, critical reading skills, and commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice.

To complete the badge, ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ affiliates must attend at least 10 hours total of events related to the Latine/x experience in the US, with at least 5 of the hours at events organized by the Spanish and Portuguese Department, and up to 5 more hours of relevant events organized by other units.  All events that count for the badge are related in some way to the Latine/x experience within the US.

Events include

  • our Department’s Embracing our Roots: Spanish in Colorado and the US on Sept 20,
  • a book club for Solito: A Memoir as Buffs One Read for 2024-25 (meeting dates and times to be announced),
  • our Department’s series of Fireside Chats on Latine/x cultural issues, (meeting dates and times to be announced),
  • The Latinx Public Reading and Art Series to be held during Fall 2024,
  • the Latin American and Latinx Studies Center’s Rocky Mountain Latinx Conference on October 10, and
  • Many other campus-wide events. (Badge-earners may propose events we aren’t aware of, for inclusion in the list of relevant events; write with your proposals to badge administrator anne.becher@colorado.edu.)

NOTE: Spanish language proficiency is not a prerequisite for participating in the activities and events required to earn this badge
