First Peoples Worldwide prepares current and future leaders to meet the pressing social responsibility challenges facing today's businesses. We offer a unique opportunity for professionals, students, and recent graduates to drive change to forward respect for the rights and wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples at the intersection of business, law, and finance. Through fellowships, legal externships, and internships, we help shape and train young professionals in these areas, whether it be through all parts of our work or project-specific endeavor.

Fellowships 

Fellowships at First Peoples Worldwide support project-centered work or research-intensives in the areas of sustainable development, finance, investment, social justice, law, and more. Fellows are responsible for implementing and managing a variety of projects, conducting related research, and coordinating with partners and stakeholders within and outside the University. Fellows also have the opportunity to collaborate on other initiatives at First Peoples Worldwide, so it is encouraged that applicants review work and programs at /program/fpw

First Peoples is proud to offer competitive pay and benefits for its fellows. Fellowships available for recent graduates are usually posted in the spring prior to graduation. There are currenlty no open fellowship opportunities. 

Legal Externships

Colorado Law
In partnerships with Colorado Law, First Peoples Worldwide is committed to the professional development of new attorneys in the field of Indian law, and to offer practical experience in the support of Indigenous Peoples in international law.

In exchange for course credit, Legal Externs support First Peoples Worldwide’s mission and are responsible for conducting legal research and analysis and producing written deliverables on a topic of interest related to ongoing initiatives. These initiatives may include drafting reports to international treaty bodies on human rights violations relating to Indigenous Peoples; monitoring and preparing updates to international mechanisms (e.g. the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations Committee to End Racial Discrimination); and, developing legal research and memoranda related to federal Indian law, business and human rights, or international Indigenous Peoples law. Externs will produce documents for outside partners and will receive supervision and mentorship towards that goal.

Externships for current law students are usually posted by October/November for Spring externships, February/March for Summer externships, and July/August for Fall externships. Please check back here for externship opportunities as they become available. 

Internships

Interview
Internships at First Peoples Worldwide offer students practical and professional experience in support of furthering Indigenous Peoples’ rights and concerns in the capital markets, through international mechanisms, and within domestic frameworks. We provide opportunities to make professional and scholarly contributions in areas of expressed need, develop leaders with an awareness of current and emerging issues, and facilitate cultural exploration and personal development. First Peoples is proud to provide paid internships year-round for students in myriad disciplines to provide support with ongoing projects.
