Interim Assistant Director of Bands Logan Sorey joined the College of Music faculty in 2024. His responsibilities include conducting the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder Concert Band, directing the Buffs Basketball Band, serving as assistant director of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band and teaching the marching band techniques course in the college’s music education curriculum. During the summer term, Sorey directs the Summer Music Academy.
Prior to his faculty appointment at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder, Sorey was a graduate part-time instructor in the bands department where he frequently guest conducted the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Wind Symphony Chamber players. He has been the instructor of record for the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder Campus Band and a frequent guest lecturer in the college’s undergraduate conducting programs. Previously, Sorey taught seven years in Hillsborough County Florida at the middle and high school levels.
Sorey maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, arranger and drill writer. He has presented sessions at the Florida Music Educators Association conference (2021), the Gebhardt Leadership Camp and the University of South Florida Summer Band Camp in their Student Leadership track. His drill and arrangements are frequently performed by colleges and high schools in Colorado and Florida.
Sorey is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting and literature at the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned a Bachelor of Science in music education and Master of Music in instrumental conducting from the University of South Florida. His primary conducting teachers were Don McKinney, Matthew McCutchen, William Wiedrich and Marc Sosnowchik.
