Sarah Gavison,ÌýPhD Candidate in History,Ìýsuccessfully defended herÌýdissertation prospectus in July entitled "Stalin's Zionism: Soviet Policy on Jewish Survivors in Poland and their Role in Soviet Support for the Creation of Israel, 1944-1949." Supported by a grant from ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ'sÌýDepartment of History, she will conduct research for her dissertation throughoutÌýthe United States, Israel, Russia, and Poland during the upcoming year.

Since summer 2014, Sarah hasÌýbeen working within the Mazal Holocaust Collection, housed by ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ's Archives. In addition to continuing her work in the archives, she will be taking over for graduate student Nick Underwood as the assistant managing editor of the East European Jewish Affairs journal.

In addition, Sarah will be presenting a paper entitled "The Origins of Stalin's Short-Lived Alliance with Zionism"Ìýat the September 18-20, 2015.Ìý
