Abstract:
This talk explores Indigenous and Indian diasporic relations that exist within and across the afterlives of imperialism in what is known as Canada and theorizes dominant caste Indian diasporic complicities in ongoing colonization of Indigenous nations and lands. Foregrounding the transnational intersections of race, caste, and indigeneity, the talk draws from research in sites of resource extraction, logging and canneries in British Columbia in the 1970s-90s and the tar sands in Alberta presently, and theorizes these sites as simultaneous spaces of intimacies and complicities.
