Meredith DeBoom’s research analyzes how rising Chinese investment influences the multiscalar politics of resource extraction, development, and state building in Namibia. Her investigation of how place-based identities and (geo)politics shape citizens’ perceptions of mining will help address mining-associated conflict and inequality. A first-generation college student, she also mentors students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
