Dr. Kathy Schultz is a founding faculty fellow and a member of the Executive Committee at the Crown Institute. In December 2023, she stepped down as dean of the School of Education at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder to become a full-time faculty fellow at the Crown Institute. She is currently working on several writing projects connected to the dignity of teachers and teaching and compassionate leadership. She is excited to deepen her connection with the Crown Institute and for the varying ways her work will continue to grow along with the Institute.
Kathy has a PhD in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Before her time as dean at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boulder from 2017-2023, she was dean at Mills College in Oakland, California and professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Her most recent book, Distrust and educational change: Overcoming barriers to just and lasting reform draws on her work in Oakland and as a school board member and leader of professional development in international settings and is connected to the Belonging and Trust project at the Crown Institute.
