By 1911 ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder’sÌýwomen had decided theÌýtime was right for a majorÌýcampus building of theirÌýown, one with parlors,Ìýbedrooms, a dining roomÌýand a gymnasium. To raiseÌýmoney, the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Women’sÌýLeague planned a springÌýfestival called May Fete.

The event, held untilÌý1925, was at heart aboutÌýmusic and dancing. As thisÌýphotograph from the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵÌýHeritage Museum attests,Ìýit was also an occasion forÌýcreative costuming, oftenÌýwith a fairy-tale theme —Ìýhere, Snow White.

Auto shows, operettas,Ìýweight-guessing gamesÌýand various other amusementsÌýhelped raise money.ÌýIlluminated boats driftedÌýon Varsity Lake.

A World War I constructionÌýban and rising costsÌýscuttled plans for theÌýnew building. The LeagueÌýinstead put the $15,000 itÌýraised toward Macky Auditorium’sÌýpipe organ.

In 1925 the Fete gaveÌýway to an annual dance.ÌýA large residence hall forÌýwomen was finally builtÌýin 1934. You’d know it as Sewall Hall.Ìý
