Leading Thinker on Cooperative Economies to Speak at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder

Michel Bauwens, an eminent Belgian peer-to-peer theorist focusing on technology, culture and business innovation, will speak at the University of Colorado Boulder on April 5. Bauwens is director and founder of the , a global organization of researchers focused on peer production, governance and property. He has written and lectured extensively on the commons and its economics.

In his talk at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ-Boulder–entitled –Bauwens will discuss the role of media platforms in the transformation of civic, market and state forms toward a contribution-based and commons-oriented economy. He will argue that new forms and institutions emerging in this process are potential seeds for a successful transition toward a fair, free and sustainable mode of value creation and distribution.

The talk is open to the public and is sponsored by the Department of Media Studies in the College of Media, Communication and Information and ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Innovative Seed Grant program.

On April 6, Bauwens will meet with cooperative organizations from the Boulder community to discuss his "Chamber of the Commons" concept. The discussion is open to the public and will include presentations from several local organizations, giving the Boulder community a chance to share strategies, challenges and new opportunities for collaboration.
