Gries Wins Advancement of Knowledge Award for Book on Visual Rhetorics

Update 2/4/16: Gries has also been awarded the 2016 CCCC for Still Life with Rhetoric. This award honors an empirical research publication that most advances the mission of CCCC or the needs of the profession.

Laurie Gries, an assistant professor with a joint appointment in communication and the Program for Writing and Rhetoric, has won a 2016 CCCC Advancement of Knowledge Award for her book, . This award honors an empirical research publication in the previous two years that most advances writing studies.

In Still Life with Rhetoric, Gries explores how images often spread and change across different media, genres and locations. As part of this study, she introduces a digital research method for tracing an image’s circulation, transformation and collective activities.

The (CCCC) is a constituent organization within the National Council of Teachers of English thats upports and promotes the teaching and study of composition, rhetoric and communication at the college level.
