Bootcamp

Students and faculty sit together in a classroom

Students in the Interdisciplinary Quantitative Biology graduate program will conduct interdisciplinary research through their Ph.D. careers to define and expand the frontiers of the biological sciences. To succeed in this goal, the students need to feel comfortable collaborating with scientists of with different background expertise. In order to accustom the students to this type of collaboration, the students will participate in an IQ Biology “bootcamp”, a series of short scientific experiences and seminars intended to prepare them for an interdisciplinary doctoral program. During bootcamp, students will develop foundational skills and knowledge for interdisciplinary research, learn to work as a cohesive team with other peers and faculty, and improve their scientific communication skills.

In past years, bootcamp activities have included:

  • MATLAB
  • Laboratory Tours
  • Picnics/Happy Hours
  • Faculty Talks
  • Hikes
