¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ The Clinic

At the Digital Legacy Clinic at the University of Colorado Boulder, we work with people to support end-of-life planning for online accounts and data, identifying challenges, offering resources and developing plans that ensure cherished memories are shared after a family member passes.

Even if we don’t have formal estate plans or wills, you likely have a good idea of what’s in your bank account or what assets you own. But your digital footprint dwarfs your physical one—Facebook posts, streaming subscriptions, Spotify playlists, emails, text messages, passwords, photo albums, and so on.

Through its work and research efforts, the clinic also supports the design of systems that enable post-mortem data management, empowering users to develop end-of-life plans for their accounts.

The Digital Legacy Clinic is modeled on law schools that offer pro-bono legal support from students.

The team is available to provide helpdesk-style support for users seeking answers after a loved one has died, as well as to create longer-term strategies for those looking to get their digital estates in order.

Through its research work, the clinic has developed resources, tools and frameworks to guide people through the challenges of creating a digital estate plan, ensuring best practices are brought to each consultation.
