One of the great things about a major in the College of Arts & Sciences is that it has a broad application to many jobs and career paths. That can also be one of the hard things about it if you’re not sure where to start!

The following information is meant to be a starting point for you. There are many ways to build professional experiences, identify relevant job boards and find companies that are doing interesting work. As a part of the largest college at Ƶ Boulder with more than 60 academic programs, you and your peers are doing exciting things. Alumni from the College of Arts & Sciences include Nobel Laureates, MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipients, National Medal of Science winners and a Pulitzer Prize winner. With a $79,000 average salary, 88% of students report being employed within six months of graduating from college. 92% of alumni report being satisfied or very satisfied with their job.

Some people like to claim that the liberal arts are dead, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. According to the Association of American Colleges and Universities, 93% of employers say that the ability for job candidates to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems is more important than their undergraduate major. 96% of employers want employees with ethical judgment, integrity and intercultural skills. While the world of work may be uncertain, your liberal arts degree and the skills you gain in your academic journey will prepare you for professional success. Utilize the MySkills program to identify the skills you have now and learn about the skills you’ll need to develop.
