Meet five students who’ve honed their personal leadership styles by heading up student clubs at Leeds. Their stories are different, but their approaches share a common thread: Next-gen leaders will seek to understand rather than command.

Co-Presidents, Multicultural Business Student Association

Kevin Nguyen and Julie Huang have a lot in common—they came from large high schools, are majoring in the same field, and dream of working for a technology company. Now, together, they’re leading the Multicultural Business Student Association (MBSA), a club that helps diverse students network with well-known companies.

One of their shared goals is to create more community within the club, including hangouts outside of meetings and in less professional settings. They’re already on track—hosting various field days, trivia nights, community service events and nights throughout the semester.

It was important for both Nguyen and Huang to lead a club representing diverse backgrounds and believe their club can only be as strong as their connections to one another. They hope to create a better, more inclusive environment for all their members.

“I enjoy helping a smaller community within Leeds where I can promote diversity and inclusion, especially for those trying to find a community to be a part of,” Nguyen said.

Even when there are times that they feel like they have no one, they will always have their members through MBSA and each other to rely on.
